Peaches provide several health benefits to the consumer. Not only do they store nutrients such as vitamin A and vitamin C, but they are rich in calcium, potassium, iron and zinc.
Low in calories, this sweet treat contains no cholesterol or saturated fat due to its high water base and is also a good source of fiber. In addition, peaches provide relief from conditions such as cancer, obesity, hypokalemia and high cholesterol and help maintain a healthy nervous system, bones, teeth, skin and vision.
This fuzzy fruit is broken down into two different types: clingstone and freestone. Clingstone peaches are typically used in processing while freestone are ideal for consumption. Within these two types, peaches come in three different colors: yellow, white and red. The United States most commonly has yellow peaches, while China—the largest producer of this fruit—typically produces white peaches with less acidity, therefore lacking the tangy flavor.
Although peaches are recognized as the state fruit of Georgia, Texas is well-known for its fresh peach products. Check out these places to fulfill your sweet peach cravings.
