Sometimes they are the people behind the scenes and sometimes they are leading the class, but regardless of their specific role, volunteers are an essential part of the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) and the work that DADS supports.
For the past 10 years, the Vision Awards has provided state-level recognition for exemplary service in three areas that support the agency's vision: wellness, dignity and choice.
At the 2016 Awards, DADS recognized volunteers for the state who have made a significant impact with the senior and/or intellectually and developmentally disabled (IDD) population. Some of the volunteers who were recognized have volunteered with the state for 45 years.
