Brookdale Senior Living CE Series
Join Brookdale Senior Living on Tuesday, June 8 for "Engaging LGBT - Identified Family Members, Caregivers and Community Partners" presented by Tim R. Johnston, PhD, senior director of National Projects for SAGE.
As service providers, the focus is often on creating welcoming environments for LGBT older adults, but what about all of the family members, caregivers and community partners who identify as LGBT? Join Brookdale Senior Living as they shift their focus to examine ways to support and engage the network of LGBT folks who surround older adult constituents. They will learn skills that will help keep constituents connected with these support networks and how to engage everyone in their circle of support with respect.
Following this presentation the participant will be able to:
- Describe the difference between a family of origin and a chosen family, as well as considerations to integrate chosen families and to care
- Articulate the facts about, and unique challenges faced by, LGBT people who are also caregivers
- List some next steps to strengthen partnerships with local LGBT community groups and organizations
- Identify personal and organizational best practices to support LGBT caregivers
