Held year-round, Canton’s First Monday Trade Days take place the Thursday through Sunday before the first Monday of the month. The name harks back to the market’s origins—in the 1850s, First Monday Trade Days began as an informal affair surrounding the monthly (first Monday, of course) visit of the circuit judge, when area locals traveled to town to buy or sell their wares and sit in on court proceedings.
From those humble beginnings, the First Monday Trade Days tradition has evolved into a shopping experience spread out over multiple venues and hundreds of acres, with more than 6,000 vendors selling one-of-a-kind crafts, furnishings, antiques, collectibles, clothing, jewelry, electronics and just about anything else you could imagine.
If you’ve seen Canton’s First Monday Trade Days once you certainly haven’t seen it all—as in olden times, the savvy shopper will want to make this celebrated event a regular pilgrimage.
