The Lone Star State has many beautiful not-to-miss landscapes. From the deserts of West Texas to the loblolly pine forests in the eastern part of the state, there is much to explore including these three majestic waterfalls.
McKinney Falls
You’ll forget you are in Austin’s backyard, a mere 10 miles from Texas’ Capitol as you take in the beautiful McKinney Falls.Known for its limestone and ancient cypress trees, visitors can take a fast and easy hike to enjoy the sights and sounds of the falls as they cascade over rocky ridges and pool into Onion Creek.
Madrid Falls
Visit this Chihuahuan Desert oasis for fantastic views of Texas’ best kept secret—Madrid Falls. Take in the lush green landscape around the second tallest waterfall in Texas. Spring may be the best time to visit because explorers not only enjoy the rugged West Texas backcountry but also views of native wildflowers as far as the eye can see.
Gorman Falls
Located northwest of Austin in Lampasas, this state park will wow visitors with its caves, rivers and spectacular views. Take a short 1.5-mile hike to Gorman Falls, which is surrounded by travertine rock formations and lush green vegetation along the western side of the Colorado River. Visitors may also get a glimpse of the state fish (the Guadalupe Bass) and other wildlife nestled in the small pools formed by travertine dams.
